Meet the Speakers

Karen Rosner
Educator

Karen Rosner was Director of Visual Arts for the NYC Department of Education from 2007 to 2024. She created citywide professional development for visual arts teachers PreK to Grade 12, and supervised PS Art, the annual student art exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Karen developed the Art History Research Fellows program for high school students and worked with the Second Circuit Court of Appeals on an art and justice program for secondary school students. She supervised NYC's Commencement Exam in Visual Arts and served on the review committee for the New York State Standards for Visual Arts.

Previous to this, Karen was school-based in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant and Park Slope, then project coordinator for a 5-year Annenberg Grant at PS 7 in the Bronx.

Karen supervises visual arts student teachers for Hunter College, serves as Vice Chairperson for the NYC division of NYSATA, and is a trustee of The School Art League. She has a master's degree in art history and has recently developed curriculum resources centered on ten contemporary women artists for the Making Their Mark Foundation.
